TEMPO Café
Barista (Full-time, early open)
About the role
Open the café and set the tone for the day. Coffee through an all-day Western brunch service, with the counter handed over clean to the bar when the room turns to tapas. This role works the early shift.
What you will be doing
- Open the café: dial in the grinder, check the machine, and have the counter ready before the first guest.
- Prepare ingredients and tools and set up the counter before service.
- Make espresso-based coffee, filter, juices and the non-alcoholic list exactly to recipe.
- Take orders and serve promptly through a brunch service that runs all day.
- Keep milk, syrups and fruit checked and rotated, and discard anything past its point.
- Clean the machine, grinder and glassware through the shift, not only at the end.
- Stock-count at the start of the day and flag what needs ordering.
- Hand the counter over to the bar in a state the evening can start from.
- Meet food hygiene and safety standards in preparation and storage.
Background we are looking for
- At least one year as a barista on machine coffee in a café or restaurant.
- Comfortable being the person who opens, and reliable about it.
Skills and tools
- Espresso machine and grinder, including dialling in rather than only pulling shots.
- Latte art.
- Consistency: the same drink at 7am and at 2pm.
- Conversational English, enough to take an order and talk about the coffee.
- Hygiene and prep as part of the shift rather than an afterthought.
Nice to have
- Vietnamese drip coffee as well as machine coffee.
- Any interest in where the beans come from and why the cup changes.
- Willingness to learn the bar side over time.
What good looks like here
Good is a room that is ready before it needs to be. The first guest at opening gets the same cup as the tenth, the counter never looks like it is catching up, and the person taking over from you does not have to fix anything first.
Pay and benefits
There is a group benefits programme across the team. We would rather go through pay and what comes with the role with you directly than publish a list, so ask us when we talk.
